What is Unbox?
• A self-directed learning box for kids aged 3-11 with 40 activities for each age group.
• The activities in the box encourage them to think independently. UnBox focuses more on ‘learning’ rather than ‘teaching’
• The box contains the necessary material needed for the activity, but none of it is proprietary. They are easily available in the market.
• UnBox is a place where kids are free to express themselves; no form of artwork is expected from any activity.
What is there in the App and how to use it?
• App provided with the box is a tool for communication for parents with UnBox.
• The audio instructions for each activity are only for kids. The instructions do not tell exactly what to do; they just suggest what they can do. Parents are expected not to make the instructions easier and to trust the kid's abilities and decision-making to get along with the activity.
• App has the feature of uploading photos & videos of the processes and the outcomes. The learning outcome from the activity provides an insight into various developmental attributes touched by the activity.
How to understand the learning outcomes?
• The Learning Outcomes are for parents only. Don’t let your kids go through it.
• For kids, education is creating ideas & thoughts through their actions: big or small; that’s what UnBox does.
• Learning Outcome is an opportunity to understand the spaces where real learning happens.
• None of the activities in UnBox is meant to get to an outcome. Instead, our observations from previous experiences with kids are mentioned here. We believe that the process of learning is more important than the results.
• All the learning outcomes are based on various observations, research & studies. References to these sources are mentioned on our website. You can find them here.
Why Positive Appraisal?
The videos linked with learning outcome are not meant for exhibiting children's activities. It is a positive appraisal of each activity. This is for parents only. UnBox intends to convey the positive appraisal of the work done by the children. There is no scope for comparison here. Effectively UnBox intends to discourage superiority or inferiority complex arising out of the comparison among the children. Instead, it encourages the parents to accept your child like any other human being. UnBox intends to develop the ability to welcome this normalcy among the parents.
